Inverted Nipple Correction

What are inverted nipples?

This refers to nipples that are turned inwards and therefore do not have a normal protrusion.

Who requests inverted nipple correction?

As the nipple does not respond well to changes in temperature, some women can find it embarrassing especially when only one side is affected and they are putting on body hugging outfit such as swim wear. Some people request for the correction because of an inability to clean the nipple properly.

How is it performed?

Small cuts are made on the brown area surrounding the nipple and the tight tissues pulling the tip of the nipple inwards are released

What kind of anesthetic is used?

It is usually performed under a local anaesthetic.

How long is the hospital stay?

It is performed as a day case so you get to go home shortly after the procedure.

How long am I off work?

Most people are able to return to work in a few days

What are the risks?

Patients are pleased with the results though some of the protrusion after the correction can be lost. General problems as with any surgical procedure such a minor infection or wound breakdown can occur. Sensation on the nipple may change and breast feeding may be difficult because of internal scarring.
